DISCUSSION

The above novel was an adaptation of the Jules Verne fictional novel FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON published by Scholastic Book Services for a children's audience. Though the original work was written in French in the era of the War Between the States (1860s), the above edition appeared in 1965.

Some difficulties exist with regard to the science portrayed in the cover artwork. Verne's "shotgun" launcher, Columbiad, fired its bullet-like spacecraft from Florida. The cover picture obviously does not depict a Florida launch since the vehicle is shown on its lunar trajectory with Florida to the east.
